This can pose several challenges to others involved who may need access to the file. For example, some email clients and Title Production Software (TPS) platforms don’t accept files over 20 MB. As a best practice, Snapdocs recommends that any file uploaded to Snapdocs is less than 20 MB.
Scanned PDFs can be large files for various reasons. However, the most common culprit for enormous file sizes tends to be a misconfiguration of the dots per inch (DPI) setting on your scanner.
Adjust the scanner’s dots per inch (DPI) setting
The dots per inch (DPI) setting essentially controls how crisp an image is – a higher DPI means you'll get a sharper image, however, the file’s size will be much larger. Typically, most scanners are set to scan at a resolution of 300 DPI.
If you are trying to upload a PDF to Snapdocs and notice it’s too large, start by lowering the resolution or dots per inch (DPI) setting on your scanner. Use the below graphic as a guide to help you find the right balance of DPI and legibility.
After you adjust the scanner’s DPI settings, rescan a few pages of the package and double-check the image quality. If the scans appear to be blurry, increase the DPI.
