RON Signer Suitability & Readiness Questionnaire
RON is a convenient and ideal option for many loan closings. To use RON, the signers must be both willing AND suitable for connecting with an online notary.
All signers (borrowers and non-borrowing signers) must complete the RON meeting. If any signer is not able or willing to connect with an online notary, the transaction will be blocked and must be converted to an in-person signing.
To best prepare your signers, here are helpful guidelines for suitability & readiness.
What is Signer Suitability?
To participate in a RON transaction signers must be able to meet the Legal and Technical Requirements for online notarization. Factors to consider if a signer is suitable for a RON experience.
-
Identity verification - Knowledge-based Authentication (KBA) is a Legal requirement that must be met to meet with an online notary. The KBA process uses Name, SSN, Recent US Address to generate random questions from credit history and public records. Signers that do not have US issued SSN or sufficient credit history (minimum 6 months) will not be able to generate questions to complete the KBA process.
-
Personal credentials - Signers must present valid and unexpired US Government-issued identification (sometimes 2 forms will be needed). These credentials must be captured on camera and also visually inspected by the notary.
-
Technology Comfort - Signers must be comfortable with using technology to actively participate in a meeting with both Audio & Visual capability. They must have access to a stable, strong internet connection and be able to activate both camera and microphone on their device to interact with the RON notary.
-
English as Second Language (ESL) - If a signer is not a native English speaker they may have difficulty understanding or interacting with the online notary. Any questions or prompts from the notary that cannot be answered or completed successfully may require the notary to terminate the online meeting.
-
Transactional Savvy - Signers should be comfortable and ideally experienced with the mortgage closing process. The Online notary is only permitted to explain the purpose of each document to be signed. The notary is prohibited from providing opinions or explaining any of the terms or conditions set forth in the closing package. Signers that have many questions or any uncertainty are not well suited for a RON closing.

- I will be out of the state/country when signing, is that ok?

- I’ll be located outside of the standard US time zones, is this an issue?
- No! We have notaries available 24 hours a day available to meet with you. The average wait time is 10 seconds or less, however if it is after normal business hours (12am-6am EST), the wait may take between 6-10 minutes.
- My closing requires a witness, what does that mean?
- This means that a person outside of the parties on a closing must witness you sign your documents. They will have to be provided by the signer(s) , in the same physical location as the signer(s) during the closing, and must show a valid ID on-camera. If multiple signers must be witnessed, each signer will have to join their own notary session with the witness in concurrent signings.
Note: Lender must make Snapdocs aware that a witness is required on the closing by emailing support@snapdocs.com
